Moore Public Schools offers a variety of opportunities for students who need a learning environment other than the regular school setting.
The VISTA High School is designed for students in grades 9 through 12 who are identified as at risk of not graduating high school. These students may be dropouts, students needing to transition between treatment centers or suspensions and traditional school, and/or students who have not been successful academically. The VISTA Academy High School curriculum is based on district and state content standards and adheres to the structure delineated by the Oklahoma Academic Standards. The program creates a school in which parents, staff, and students choose to participate because the program honors individuals’ differences, values diverse populations, and is committed to ensuring the educational success of all students.
The VISTA 7th and 8th is designed for students who are identified as at risk of not being promoted to high school. The program is designed for students who need extra individual assistance in an alternative setting. The seventh and eighth-grade program serves the six junior high schools. This is a full-day program and students are expected to attend full-time and on a long-term basis (e.g., from their entry date to the end of the school year. Candidates must sign a written agreement with school officials and parents).
The VISTA 6th Grade Program is designed for students who are identified as at-risk or who have already dropped out of school. The program is designed for students who need extra individual assistance in an alternative setting. The sixth-grade program is housed at Santa Fe Elementary and serves all 21 elementary schools in our district. This is a full-day program and students are expected to attend full-time and on a long-term basis (e.g., from their entry date to the end of the school year. Candidates must sign a written agreement with school officials and parents).
MOORE NIGHT SCHOOL (Dropout/Credit Recovery) is designed for students who have dropped out of school and have a desire to return to school to pursue graduation requirements, as well as seniors lacking credits to graduate on time. These students may be on long-term suspension, drug/alcohol suspension, referred by the juvenile justice system, have academic deficiencies, and/or have needs that are not met in the traditional classroom setting. This program meets four nights a week, with five hours of instruction available each night.
Although the four programs differ with regard to a particular design, targeted population, and areas of emphasis, the goals, and expectations are similar: reducing the dropout rate, retrieving dropouts to empower them to get back on track to graduate, reducing chronic absenteeism, raise individual grade point averages, increase the number of courses passed per semester per student, improve behavior and attitude toward school, raise standardized test scores, and increase the area graduation rate.
